University of Mindanao
The University of Mindanao was established in 1946 and is one of the oldest universities in Southern Philippines. It is a non-sectarian school offering the most number of college programs in this part of the country.
Located in Davao City, it has contributed immensely to the rapid growth of Southern Mindanao through its successful graduates, both in private and the public sector.
The University of Mindanao has ten (10) branches spread over thirteen (13) campuses in Southern Mindanao. It has a total student population of 29,765 (SY 2007-08). It is the largest private university in Mindanao with the most number of PACUCOA accredited programs in the country today.
The University of Mindanao and the year it was founded, 1946, are inscribed on top and below, respectively inside an outer circle edge with waves. The inner circle has Latin words, "Vincit Omnia Veritas," meaning Truth Conquers All. Over it are two laurel leaf branches symbolizing honor and achievement, framing a vinta on a wavy sea, whose giant sail has the initials of UM, with the horizon behind. This conveys the message "Sail On" or "Move On." In the sky above the horizon are five stars representing the heavenly bodies that influence the destiny of the youth, Hope of the Fatherland.
